Year Six children have had a very informative Alcohol and Substance abuse workshop with Heidi from ADDACTION. We learned about the impact and dangers of misuse of alcohol and drugs.
Barn Owls have begun writing their own stories for the BBC Radio 2 - 500 words competition!
Watch this space, as we will upload some of our stories once they have been completed.
We are continuing our Time Travel project. Moving forward in time, from the Ancient Greeks to the arrival of the Vikings. We have already learnt about their arrival and how they would pillage and plunder monasteries and villages. For our class assembly, January 31st at 9.10am, we have prepared an Anglo-Saxon and Viking chant.
We have listened to a Viking myth about the beginning of the world and have compared and contrasted that with the Christian story of Creation. Following that, the children have contemplated their own beliefs and how they are either similar or may differ from a world religion.
Our class assembly is coming together very well, and we are confident it will WOW the whole school and parents.
Barn Owls are going to be entering the BP STEM Challenge - Wearable Tech. The closing date is January 10th 2020. We have been disucssion many different types of weable tech, including:
Barn Owls are doing some research at home and over the next few months will be creating their own innotive, exciting, unique idea to submit to the BP judging panel. Click on this link to watch the BP STEM video.
We are in Year 5 and Year 6 and are taught by Miss Reeder and Miss Gardner.
This year we are going to be Time Travellers.
Each term we will visit different eras and look at how societies have altered and cities have changed!
At the beginning of the Autumn term we will need to design our Time Machines: carefully using our design and technology skills; writing high level instruction booklets and creating some wonderful pieces of art work to accompany these.
By Christmas we will be able to answer these questions:
What is chronology? |
What importance have Greek artefacts had on our understanding of the Ancient Greek era? |
What made the Ancient Olympic games special, especially during times of war? |
What did the Greeks hide in when attempting to rescue Helen from Troy? |
Which Anglo-Saxon ruler is most famous? |
What did Alfred the Great do which was seen as ‘Great?’ |
What famous battle took place in 1066? |
What depicts the famous adventure of William the Conqueror? |
