Welcome to Barn Owl's
class page.
This year, Barn Owl class is purely Year 6 children! It is going to be a fun-filled year, with mind-blowing mathematics, exciting English, scintillating science, groovy geography, amazing art, cool computing and much, much more!
Our class novel is J.R.R Tolkein's The Hobbit.
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.
We will be reading this classic piece of fiction, discussing characterisations and applying our grammar understanding to pieces of writing linked to this wonderful story.
In mathematics we will be following the White Rose programme of study, beginning with Place Value and the Four operations.
Our umbrella this term is
Breathtaking Beasts
In geography we will be learning about Space, Place and Scale. This will include looking at the local area, region, country and continent we live in and how it is similar or different from other places around the world. We will look at different animals which are native to locations and think about the impact climate, in those biomes, has on animals' habitats.
In Science this term we are going to be learning about Classification, Evolution and Inheritance. We will be studying the important work of Carl Linnaeus, Charles Darwin
and Rosalind Franklin.
We will study classification systems and how living organisms can be 'sorted' using them. This will tie in with our Umbrella of Breathtaking Beasts!
In Religious Education we are going to be finding the answers to
Why is the Qur'an important to Muslims? We will explore Islamic beliefs and how they are similar to other religions, as well as how they differ.
Barn Owls will be working with Mr Strange and Miss Pusey in P.E. We will be ensuring both physical and mental well-being are given priority! We all need to keep our bodies and minds healthy.
Our P.E days are on Tuesdays and Fridays - remember to come in your P.E kit on those days, with your school jumper or cardigan!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
